Week 10 Story: How to Treat Your Ox

Image
In a time before steam engines, when farmers used animals to plow the field, a farmer owned an ox who could plow a field faster than any other ox the farmer had seen. The ox could also move any boulder he tried to pull. The farmer was very proud of this animal because he had raised the ox from birth and had developed such a wonderful bond with the animal. One day the farmer was visiting the nearby town and overheard one of the denizens talking about an ox from another town over who pulled fifty carts. The man said he was willing to bet no ox could pull more than that.  This statement caught the farmer’s attention. He walked up to the man and exclaimed that his ox could pull twice the number of carts this other ox pulled. The man looked at him and laughed. He then looked to his friend and joked about the farmer being delusional. He turned back to the farmer and tried to shoo him away. This second set of stories only contains one story which I had read previously. That story is the one of the crane and the crab. This story again highlights how people can be untrustworthy. Reading it again made me realize that it also shows that you need to know how to protect yourself by holding an advantage over others. It shows how you need to be street smart and think about other people’s intentions. Some of the new stories were pretty interesting. The story concerning why the owl is not the king of the birds was a cool story. It attempts to explain why crows and owls dislike one another. Some of these stories are interesting because they seek to explain how the animals, which I assume are abundant in India, interact with one another. The stories seem to be a cool way to teach children about the world around them. It is probably more interesting to tell children a story than to lecture them. It is also a great way to highlight the intelligence of the two birds. Anthropomorph

This was a fun reading to do. It had a few familiar stories which were fun to re-read. It also had some new stories which were cool to read. The first story listed was the story of the crocodile and the monkey. That was the story that I rewrote for my first story in the first week. It was very cool to re-read that story because there were some extra things in it that were not there the first time. It was cool to see the monkey outsmart the crocodile twice. Another story that I had read before was the story of the turtle who wanted to go with the two birds. It was funny again this time even more than the last time I read it. It was also cool to read the story of the foolish timid rabbit because that one is always funny. The new stories that I read for this post were also very fun to read. I especially liked the story of the merchant who tried to swindle the family out of their golden bowl but was foiled. This story really spoke to me because I take huge issue with people who try t
