Lab, Week 12
I decided to do a story lab this week. Normally I do not do
one of these. This week I decided to do this because I saw that there was an
option that involved watching CrashCourse videos. I remember from tenth grade
in high school watching CrashCourse history videos, so I was super excited
about watching these videos on mythology. The assignment did mention that these
videos would be more helpful to the myth-folklore class, but I just went ahead
and watched them and am now doing a post on it. I thought these videos were
pretty cool. They explored what mythology was specifically, and what it meant
to study the subject. They focus pretty heavily on Greek mythology and some Norse
mythology. This is disappointing because I would love to see more Indian
mythology. The big point they mentioned, that I found particularly interesting,
was the theory about the Aryan people of central Asia and how both their
language and mythology influenced Indian, European, and Mesopotamian mythology
and language. This common ancestry explains why there are so many similarities between
all three of these cultures. This may have been the most interesting theory
they presented in the video series. I am glad I watched it.
